Sorry... Try alt+ either f2, f5, or f10 and see if that gives you an option to restore to factory defaults
I had the same problem, I got around it by turning off the visual effects.
Reboot and press either f2 or f5, it should give you an option to do a factory restore. After that I think that I would try some thing like Wubi
