  1. Re: Howto: VirtualBox without opening the shell.

    You're welcome.

If you want to be able to access the Internet, select "NAT" as the network type, make sure the virtual cable is plugged in, and use DHCP in the VM. At least that's how I do it. :)
  2. Re: Howto: VirtualBox without opening the shell.

OK, I fixed the spontaneous rebooting by downgrading to 1.3.2. VirtualBox 1.3.4 seems to have a serious bug in the kernel module.

Turns out I didn't realize they updated it, but I hope they fix it...
  3. Re: Howto: VirtualBox without opening the shell.

I have a problem where it spontaneously reboots my computer right after clicking Start, no matter what the guest settings are. This didn't happen when I tried it in Fedora. I got the module...

    Re: Beauty and The Geek

Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if that was true.
  5. Re: Ati mobility radeon 7500 3D in linux/Ubuntu

I usually run 16-bit too, but mostly because some games require it. It is faster than 24-bit, and it isn't that bad anyway.
  6. Re: Ati mobility radeon 7500 3D in linux/Ubuntu

Use the included "ati" driver in Xorg. I get excellent 3D on my ATI Mobility Radeon 7000. DO NOT try fglrx. There is such a tendency to try that first... ugh... I hate proprietary drivers. ;)

    Re: Ubuntu Installer Is Crap

Totally agreed. When I introduced my girlfriend to Linux, we needed to do it together so that we wouldn't mess up her computer totally. We're both autistic and tend to get wound up rather easily if...

Re: How many of you completely switched to Linux?

3 of my desktop systems (Pentium II, Pentium MMX, and 486) have hard drives that are too big for the BIOS to handle, and Windows won't run on them because of that. Well, Linux runs fine on them, and...
  9. Poll: Re: Is it high time for Ubuntu to switch to DVD?

It is. Look closely at this page: http://www.ubuntu.com/download

Ubuntu is available over Bittorrent P2P.

As to my response to this question, I want to have both. I don't have any DVD burners,...

Re: How many of you completely switched to Linux?

I am!!! And darn proud of it, too!!!

I quit using Windows on March 28, 2004. Since then, I've been a pure Linux user. I started using Linux (started with Debian) on February 7, 2004, and I enjoyed...

Re: Need help with some emulators

There are Slackware packages for Meka that can be converted to deb format easily using Alien. Visit http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7120 for more info.
  12. Re: Helping compiling Gens (Sega Emulator)

Thanks... I wrote some directions in the linked thread, but they stopped working after I upgraded to Breezy. I guess GCC 4.0 has problems with some software... Thanks for the tip on how to select a...

Re: Need help with some emulators

For Gens: try this as a normal user (NOT root):

    chmod a+x ./configure
    ./configure
    make
    sudo make install

In general, it is not a good idea to compile source code as root. I am surely...
