Just update to a newer kernel, the driver is bugged on the default ones. Try using the latest available and report back to us :)
The driver actually IS 'jacked up'.
Updating to a newer kernel would solve your problem.
AFAIK You need to update the kernel to a newer version to make the RTL chip work in this board.
I would be soooo interested in a themes repo. :)
