Problem solved.
Simply set the current user to "use audio devices" in the users/groups management. It looks like they forgot in the latest Ubuntu releases :p
I hope this can help many people...

Since I switched from Hardy to Intrepid I'm not able to get the driver to work.
As far as I remember, it worked in Intrepid Beta. No errors appear when installing the driver through the...
For those interested, I wrote a Howto for compiling XFoil here
I built a deb package for Ubuntu 32 bit, that's available here:

I'm still using hardy, but I tested the driver with the intrepid kernel for few days.
I confirm it worked.
well... building a package is not hard if you have all stuff correctly compiled.
I'm sorry... I compiled Xfoil from source and i made the package.
I didn't produce any .diff or .src and I can't find the files downloaded from that site.
I know, I should post detailed...
Sorry..I'm a bit busy working on my Thesis :p
I didn't compile avl on a 64 bit ubuntu, but, as far as i remember, I didn't have particular issues compiling on 32 bit following the istructions.
I'm able to listen Gnome system sounds using esd!
Well... yes, I wasn't able to listen to system sound using a fresh 8.04 and the Jocko's guide.

The patch for 2.6.26 kernel works for 2.6.27 too. Thank you.
The date is not a problem... I just installed my video drivers recently and I'm using Hardy.
The "->" in the output of ls means that libGL.so is in fact a symbolic link to libGL.so.1
But you don't...

Check the output of
ls -l /usr/lib/libGL.*

As I can understand, you're trying to use an enblend version different from the default enblend installed from repositories and located in /usr/bin
Maybe the enblend you're trying to use is an older...
You're wellcome,
Maybe I'll have to compile again and make a new package, cause bugs were found and corrected.
I've attached the package to the first post.
Here it is
Let me know... maybe I'll modify the first post, so the link could be more accessible.
Bye :)
I just compiled Xfoil 6.97.
I'll soon release a package. Please be patient

Oh no, the module is not loaded... so, no good news for now :p
I compiled Pulseaudio 0.9.10
Good news: The system doesn't freeze when uncommenting the oss module in default.pa
Bad News: selecting pulseaudio in the audio preferences and testing gives this...
Thank you for your report.
I have your same problem with Hardy.
The problem is related to an Intel Fortran library... I'll try to fix it as soon as possible.
Try downloading my deb package for 32 bit machines here.
Let me know...
The module fails to install in the 2.6.24-12 kernel just updated from repositories... :(
These are the last lines of /var/log/nvidia-nforce-installer.log:

Try using Xine and set 5.1 speakers in it.
5.1 streams with analogue output work nice for me.
