Re: How to Install UT2004 from Midway Anthology

No, it's an Auzentech X-Plosion - based on C-Media 8770, which gives very nice SPDIF sound (and in Windows it's real-time encoded Dolby Digital Live). I've never had any problems with this card...

Re: How to Install UT2004 from Midway Anthology

Unfortunately the ~/.alsoftrc hasn't fixed the sound issue (I logged out and back in again before trying).

FWIW the terminal shows this when I run the game -

    AL lib: alsa.c:675: set access...

Re: How to Install UT2004 from Midway Anthology

Yes, I used your script (after editing to my needs - different install dir and no nvidia) and the game starts now. Thanks.

Only there's one other showstopping issue - the sound goes all crackly...

Re: How to Install UT2004 from Midway Anthology

No, they are in the 'System' folder in the game's install folder. This is according to the howto on page 1 of this thread. But I will try what you say when I have time again.

Re: How to Install UT2004 from Midway Anthology

    The output is -

    /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0 /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0.11.2

But I'm making sure the links are named the way it says in the howto ie libSDL-1.2.so.0 and openal.so.

  8. [all variants] ssh service doesn't restart after suspend to ram

Tried editing /etc/default/acpi-support like so -

    # the resume process.
    STOP_SERVICES="ssh"
    Which you might think...

Looks like you've still got your onboard sound still enabled ('snd_intel8x0'). Is that what you want ie to run 2 sound cards?

I can highly recommend the AverMedia DVB-T USB 2.0. It's not on your list but is somewhere around that price range. It does both SD and HDTV and performs really well.

[all variants] Re: Best Linux + x64 soundcard...?

I have an X-Plosion as well but there is not much point to getting it unless you plan on using it's main feature - real-time Dolby Digital encoding - which is only available in Windows. I use that...
  15. [xubuntu] Re: Bug in Xubuntu 8.10 - Xfce Volume Control

  16. [ubuntu] Re: ripping tv shows as seperate files from DVD

I think all the DVD rippers do that - you just rip each title separately. I get very good results encoding with xvid using dvd::rip. There's also k9copy, acidrip, devede, handbrake and a few others....

It should be in the documentation that was installed with OSS. Look in eg /usr/share/doc/opensound.

The best thing a kernel rebuild will give you is a faster boot time IMHO. If you want smoother day-to-day performance you can look into some of these tips here (and similar threads on the forum).

[ubuntu] Re: Most compatible graphics card?
