the 'rsnapshot' package provides a very nice (and easy) way to manage snapshot-style backups with rsync, such as those available with high-end storage systems.

The maintainer of the Debian package orphaned it (stopped maintaining) some time ago, and it's since been removed from the Debian/Ubuntu repositories.
