I'm sorry, but I really don't know a thing about your card. What I'd say you need to do is look for others who've also tried to get this working. Search these forums first, possibly with the words "radeon 9700 beryl" (without quotes) and then try Google. Your card seems to be rather popular - I got two or three requests for help here with that same card.

    Thanks dude, i understand
But, may be u can resolve this problem:
    Code:
    link@ximian64:~$ fgl_glxgears
    Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer

    Error: couldn't get fbconfig
    Any idea?

Well, a quick Google brings this up. Don't know if you've read it already.
    http://www.stanchina.net/~flavio/deb.../msg00227.html

Click on the links under "Follow-ups" to keep following the discussion. They eventually get an answer, but they seem to know what they are doing. Try each thing they try to see if any of it works.

Essentially, this error probably means your fglrx and/or libGL drivers are messed up. I assume you've used a different HOWTO from before that's done this.

Re: HOWTO: 3D Acceleration in ATI Mobility Radeon M6 LY (and possibly others)

After applying the latest update to wine and the fglrx kernel, all of a sudden I've lost my 3D acceleration. I am running an IBM T42 with an ATI RV350 NP [Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 M10/M11] card. To get 3D acceleration working before I had to apply the fglrx driver through the Kubuntu repositories and have been working for the past few weeks. I have now tried your HOWTO and didn't crash or return any errors, with the following exceptions:

    Code:
    kurgan@Snoopy:~$ glxinfo | grep direct
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
    direct rendering: No
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
    kurgan@Snoopy:~$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.

My xorg.conf is now as follows:

    Code:
    # /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.

    Also found this:

(EE) fglrx(0): incompatible kernel module detected - HW accelerated OpenGL will not work
(EE) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable
So...um...it seems the latest fglrx update made the kernel module incompatible. Unfortunately, I'm stumped for thoughts on how to fix it.

Fixed! Apparently, the apt-get update installed a new copy of the fglrx driver within /lib/modules, and the two versions conflicted. Per http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Proble..._and_Solutions I searched for them and deleted the version with the older timestamp. Then I ran sudo depmod and rebooted. Hardware acceleration is restored.

    Hello all,

Sure that the downgradeing from Dapper to edgy is still necessary?

I did the First Part and encoutered no Problems whatso ever on my Inspiron 4100 with a ATI mobility Radeon M6 LY graphiccard. I will see later when I try some games with real 3D needs.

    For Beryl:
    Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps"
Does not realy fit to the Option:
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" # or XAA, EXA, XAA more stable, XAA is deafult
Or doesnt this matter and they just look similar on first glance.

    Cheers

The thing is with the old Dapper drivers, those games crash a lot more then Edgy ones. I'd be suprised if you had no issues.

And you are right about that XAANoOffscreenPixmaps option - it doesn't affect anything.

Re: HOWTO: 3D Acceleration in ATI Mobility Radeon M6 LY (and possibly others)

    Then be surprised.
I realy had no Issues yet
Well the only graphic Issue is that I had to reduce my resolution from 1400x1200 to 1024x786 in order to have X accept the 24 bit mode. Exept to that and the Memory / swaping problem (only have 125 MB RAM ) the Laptop is fighting with, everything runs fine. I still have to test Massive 3d usage thought. Just tried one Game with wine yet. And that had not a playable performance for my box. simply not enough RAM.

I try to install Beryl and see if that leads to any Problems.

    I keep you informed
