General Customization Help

Hi all, I've recently gotten into changing the whole desktop thing around and trying to maximize efficiency and looks.

First thing I'm trying to do, I use 6 desktops and I generally have the same programs on the same windows at all times, is there a way to add programs to the startup list and have them start on a certain desktop?

Secondly, can anyone recommend a good little tool bar for launching the applications?
