Lightbulb Proposed --> Chicago Ubuntu Team

I'm interested in a Local Ubuntu Users Group for Chicago.
My initial purpose of the group is local support and distribution of Ubuntu CD's

I'm not looking to make this a weekly meeting type event but more of an online group that will help further Ubuntu's reach but like anything it can grow into whatever it needs to.

post in the Wiki and email me so we can create an email dist. list.

Re: Proposed --> Chicago Ubuntu Team

I've found a number of Linux groups and have dropped in on one meeting. but I haven't found a Ubuntu specific group, nor was one listed in the Local groups WIKI. So I though I'd jump on it........ Anyway .

Re: Proposed --> Chicago Ubuntu Team

    Hey,

I'd be more than willing to help out. I wanted to get something like this going a while back but time was an issue. I've got http://ubuntuchicago.org/ (nothing but a default install). I'll gladly throw mediawiki up there.

I'd like to get to the point of finding people for regular meetings, hackfests, etc.

I am a Bears and Cubs fan does that count for anything?

I haven't lived in the area for 25 years though.

What are some other idea's for the groups focus....
My goal was to spread the word.

Re: Proposed --> Chicago Ubuntu Team

I've had a few folks email with interest. That's great but let's get a list going in the Wiki.... Also if anyone knows Linux Users Groups in the area make a plan to crash a meeting and drop off some Ubuntu CDs. The last (and only) Linux group I went to had a large showing and nobody used Ubuntu. I busted out a lap top and had a bunch really interested. So try to pass the word.
