It has nothing to do with Windows 7 and everything to do with where you installed the Grub bootloader. You most likely picked a partition instead of the drive (/dev/sda).
To fix it boot from a live CD, mount your new Ubuntu partition, and install grub. Normally your ubuntu partition is /dev/sda5, but if not change this:

sudo mount /dev/sda5 /mnt
sudo grub-install --boot-directory=/mnt/boot /dev/sda
If you're not sure, then either pass back the result of (note it's lower case -L)
or run a canned repair tool like boot-repair.
