I'm looking for a splash screen boot howto, but the only one I can find is with splashy, which is not part of the regular ubuntu.

Can anyone point me how to make a boot splash screen (hiding the kernel output) with just hoary? Something with a progress bar would be the apotheosis

The easiest path would be to move to Breezy, it has usplash.
