I tried both the Standard and Server CDs, and started both the KDE and Fluxbox desktops off the Standard CD. I didn't see any great improvement in Fluxbox over KDE, which is unusual since I think of KDE and glitz and Flux as sheer function.
But the KDE desktop was clean and attractive and the visual effects (like the fade-in tooltips) worked perfectly with no lag. I really expected some stutter on a non-mainstream video card at 800x600 and 300Mhz.
Package management was a bit alien for me, but I'm willing to learn. I might play with it some more, since knocking down Xubuntu to keep that machine happy takes more time than just booting Slax.
