Thanks for sharing, that was very interesting.

Personally, I think Mepis does KDE better than any KDE based distro I've tried, based on how it works on _my_ system. That is not saying that it will be good for _all_ systems, but from what I've seen of it it's fast, stable and easy to use, which is what's most important to me, seeing that I want a computer I can use without having to fiddle around with it too much.

Same here. Clearly yozef had a really bad experience with Mepis, but it works well for a lot of people, including me.

    Re: who does kde best?

I really like kubuntu as a kde distro. It's clean. Not a full kde desktop, but an excellent choice of applications, and not _too_ customized.
One thing i hate about kubuntu, is adept-updater. I rather update when i start adept. Also adpet seems to bail out from time to time. You sit and stare at the bouncing cursor and waiting for something to happen.
I've noticed that kubuntu edgy (beta) starts this guidance power manager by default, and you can't even turn it off. The icon is really ugly as well. I'm _not_ to fond of the new "configure system" panel either.
These last examples is exactly such things that keep me away from the new kubuntu i'm afraid.

Arch kde unfortunately isn't using split packages. If it was, i'd probably give it all my time. Obviously arch is not very newbie friendly (very _user_ friendly though). This is of course all i686 optimized, and bleeding edge software, so it's very up to date, and also by far, the "fastest" kde i've ever tried out.

yozef must be on another level than me (and a also few others i suspect), as i see a pattern to the distros he like. Hes most certainly not alone in that regard... what i mean is full blown (and customized) distros like pclinuxOS , Sabayon and dreamlinux is so far off my K.I.S.S. perspective, it get's in _my_ way. (No disrecpect yozef, i'm just saying were different, and that is a _good_ thing . whatever floats _your_ boat!)

Now, i've never tried mepis out, and after hearing such good thing about it, i think i will give it a try....

"got me a can o' ticks."

Haha, that's something quite a few do... I downloaded and tried Berry Linux just because of the cute kitten on the default desktop... *likes kitten, disliked the OS*
