well, its kind of confusing since this thread is too long with many script revisions...maybe it used the wrong script? Here is the one i used:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OpenOffice2Beta
It installed it in /opt/openoffice.org1.9.125, and i can launch it by using /opt/openoffice.org1.9.125/programs/soffice.bin. However, the icons do not work.
If you had Ooo installed before you may still have menu entries in your home dir... I do not remember where, something like .gnome/apps... anyway find openoffice*.desktop icons in you dir and delete, then new entries will take over.Originally Posted by sk545
Well, i figure that the error is saying this:
Details: Failed to execute child process "/opt/openoffice.org1.9/program
But, the script installed it in "/opt/openoffice.org1.9.125". Could this be the problem, and if so, any way to fix it?
/edit: i fixed it. I had to do these steps manually from the script:
sudo chmod 555 /opt/openoffice.org1.9/program/soffice
sudo mv /opt/openoffice.org1.9 /opt/openoffice.org1.9
I have no idea as to why the script didn't execute the above commands automatically.

All one has to do is go here: ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/680/ download the desired OpenOffice package, and, pending on the distro use the appropriate desktop-integration package.
There is no need to use alien due to the deb package installation tarball.
With regards to the desktop-integration, the deb desktop-integration does not seem to work for Ubuntu, so, with an individual's computer using Ubuntu, I had to manually create shortcuts using SMEG. The SuSE desktop-integration package seems to work fine.
The current OpenOffice 2.0 Beta, as of the post, is 129. Works great.

Ok! Thank you SpEcIeS!
I downloaded the OOo_SRC680_m130_en-US_native_LinuxIntel_install_deb.tar.gz package from ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/...0_m130/Build-1
Then I :
- Extracted the archive
- cd DEBS
- sudo dpkg -i *.deb
And OpenOffice.org 2 (1.9.130) was installed, the menu & shortcuts too!

Hey, that's great, and the shortcuts too. Things are looking up. One thing though, I did not know OpenOffice 2.0 Beta was now at 130. I best go and have a look and get installing.Originally Posted by ghostintheshell
