GP2X handheld is it any good?

Looking through my Linux mag I see an advert for the GP2X handheld which looks really interesting and better still it runs all open source, has anyone got one of these and if they have are they worth the money?

They are advertised for only £124.99 which is bloody good value.

    Look forward to your responses.

I preordered mine some time in November.

Looking through the GP2X forums, it seems that a lot of people are happy, and some firmware updates fixed/will fix a battery problem the units have been having.

Some really cool stuff has come out for this handheld such as a PSX emulator, some cool homebrew games, and some other emulators.

The screen is terrible- Zauruses have VGA screens!

Mine is running pdax with xfce4 as the desktop manager.

And zauruses have rechargeable batteries- and just rock. (Lots of $$ though- buy older and used!!)

I think the initial batch of these have a few firmware related problems. I'd wait a while until they work out the kinks. I think it's not out in America yet anyways, hopefully by the time it comes out they will have fixed it.

That said, it looks really sweet. I have been looking at this for a while, and will probably get one later early next year.

I was going to get one but opted instead or a Nintendo DS because it's silly to buy new hardware as soon as it hits the market.

    Gp2x also has rechargeable batteries.
"AA", or "R6", batteries is NOT, despite what many people seem to think, equal to "non rechargeable batteries". There are lots of good rechargeable >2500 mAh AA's avaliable.
